Motions

Philippine Intervarsity 2026

Round 1

  1. Media

THS the rise of media that portray contentment in isolation (e.g., living-alone vlogs, solo date culture, etc.)

Round 2

  1. Sports

THW accept the offer to play for Rain or Shine, than the local basketball team

You are a young, skilled professional basketball player who has not yet played for a big team. You currently have two offers from different teams: one from Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and one from your local, homegrown, smaller team. You have been a lifelong PBA fan and dream of playing in the league. Rain or Shine has not won a title for the past 10 years.

Round 3

  1. housing

THW expand the scope of the CCLP nationally to combat the increasing cost of housing

The Condominium Construction Loan Program (CCLP) is a Utah Housing Corporation program created by HB 572 that set aside a massive budget from the state’s Infrastructure Support fund and aggressively pushes for developers to take construction loans. Unlike bank construction loans that average around 65%-75% loan-to-cost, the CCLP caps at up to 100% loan-to-cost.

Round 4

  1. Environment

THP a radicalized approach to climate crisis action

Quarterfinals

  1. International Relations

THP a world where Thailand had agreed to the construction of the Kra Canal

The Kra Canal is a proposed artificial waterway across Thailand’s Kra Isthmus connecting the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. If constructed, it would provide ships travelling between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea an alternative to the Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s major maritime chokepoints, bordered by Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The Strait of Malacca is the subject of wider strategic interest, particularly because of its importance to China’s trade and energy supplies and its strategic significance to the United States, India, and other regional powers in Asia. The canal has historically attracted interest from states and private actors because of its potential significance to maritime transportation and regional connectivity. At the same time, proposals have been subject to discussion within Thailand and the wider region, with concerns including the scale of investment, environmental effects, and political and security implications.

Semifinals

  1. HEALTH

THBT the Philippine government should significantly restrict the recruitment of Filipino nurses by the United States, following the United States' withdrawal from the WHO

The United States announced its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO) on January 20, 2025, when President Donald Trump signed an executive order initiating the withdrawal process. Under WHO rules requiring one year's notice, the withdrawal officially took effect on January 22, 2026. Although the United States retains its own healthcare institutions and systems, as well as the ability to independently determine its healthcare priorities and investments, its withdrawal reduces its formal participation in WHO-led international health cooperation, particularly in areas such as disease surveillance and pandemic preparedness. This may place greater pressure on the US healthcare system and frontline workers during future public health emergencies.

Grand Final

  1. MARTIAL LAW

TH, as Liway, would press the button

It is the 1970s in the Philippines under Martial Law. Liway is a middle-class Filipino woman who dreams of becoming a journalist to uncover the atrocities of Martial Law and become a central figure in the resistance. At present, she has had to postpone that dream in the midst of the state's accelerating aggression toward journalism. She only knows that there are growing rumors of resistance to the regime, but no indication that these movements will actually succeed. A button is presented to her with a singular effect: if she presses it, all of the dreams she cannot realistically achieve under her present circumstances will be erased from her mind. She will no longer remember, desire, or be haunted by her dream of becoming a journalist and writing freely about the government, and she will also lose the possibility of continuing to hope for it. This is the only time that the button will be available, and she has to decide now.

High School Grand Final

  1. FILIPINO VALUES

TH, as a progressive Filipino, must actively campaign against "bayanihan" during times of disaster

Bayanihan is a Filipino value rooted in communal unity, cooperation, and mutual support, often demonstrated during times of need. Traditionally, it referred to villagers working together to physically carry a house to a new location, symbolizing collective effort and selflessness. Today, bayanihan extends to various forms of helping, such as disaster relief, community projects, and assisting neighbors. It reflects the Filipino spirit of solidarity and prioritizing the well-being of the community over individual interests.

Solidarity Cup Semifinals

  1. Technology

THBT technological development is incompatible with democracy

Solidarity Cup Grand Final

  1. MINORITIES

TH, as parents in minority communities, would raise their children to question rather than outright reject authority.
