    Mindanao has experienced decades of armed conflict involving the Philippine government, Moro separatist movements, communist insurgent groups, and other armed organizations. The Moro struggle for self-determination has historical roots in the establishment of Spanish and American colonial rule and subsequent Philippine state formation. Major peace initiatives include the 1996 Final Peace Agreement with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro with the MILF.

    A Closed Fishing Season is a conservation policy enforced by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) that bans specific fishing gears and harvesting activities in designated Philippine waters during peak spawning months to allow fish stocks to regenerate. For example, in the Visayan Sea, a seasonal ban on catching sardines, mackerel, and herring is enforced from November 15 to February 15. Violators face administrative fines, confiscation of gear, and potential imprisonment under the Philippine Fisheries Code.

Today, bayanihan extends to various forms of helping, such as disaster relief, community projects, and assisting neighbors. It reflects the Filipino spirit of solidarity and prioritizing the well-being of the community over individual interests.
